Love is a Person

“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
1 John 4:8

The Scripture says that “God is love”. This is a concept that is very hard for our minds to totally accept and understand. We think of love as either an emotion or an action, but not as a person. As we enter this special season where we celebrate a person, we need to stop and realize that this person is “love”!

Christ was not sent to be the representative of God’s love, but rather to be God’s Love in a person. In 1966, as I returned to my home after spending some time in a detention center for boys, I was desperately disenchanted with my.life. I honestly didn’t even think that true love really existed.

One week later, after an eventful series of circumstances, I ended up in the services of a Bible believing church for the first time in my life. I went forward at the invitation, not really understanding why I was going or what I was seeking. I found out it was not what I was seeking but rather who was seeking me. I was presented with the love of God in the person of Christ. For the first time in my life, I was told that God loved me as I was. That day I found love, and I was redeemed by the Person of love.

I urge you to turn to that loving Savior this Christmas season, and allow Him to your life upside down. If you have already found love, then share Him with everyone you meet during this season when Love came to save us.

Lord, I am so thankful for Your love. It is incredible to me that You not only give us love, but You define it as Yourself. Help me to show Your love to others in every circumstance and in every interaction. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
